Matthews Hall has been a special place of learning in London, Ontario since 1918. Founded by Kate Matthews with six little children in a room in St. Paul’s Cathedral, the school has grown to become its much respected present self with 250 boys and girls in kindergarten to grade eight. Non-denominational and non-profit, it is known for high standards in academics, the arts, sports and personal development. Kate Matthews herself retired with distinction in 1950. She earned an honorary doctorate from The University of Western Ontario, a chapel dedicated to her at St. Paul’s Cathedral and an enduring school committed to her ideal that each child is a separate person, living sanely and happily with contemporaries, learning to face life bravely and with joy, whatever it may bring.
