Matthews Hall has many opportunities for students. Children learn and grow when they are engaged together in something productive: club meetings, sporting events, performances, campaigns, and gatherings.

Community Involvement
Matthews Hall believes that involvement in community service is an important way to inspire children to be a voice in the world. The school prefers enterprises which involve personal action and engagement rather than a financial donation. Projects are often focused on the local community where young students can readily make connections.
Global awareness is also important and becomes the goal to which our elementary students aspire. School initiatives include food and clothing drives, partnerships with a local retirement home, the Terry Fox Run, and other charitable fundraising and community involvement.
Athletics
Our teams are called Matthews Hall Magic and we compete with schools from the London Catholic District School Board, as well as other local private schools. Matthews Hall students also take part in cross country running, swimming, skating, skiing and tennis. Beyond our instructional program, there are opportunities at three levels: house league programs; club activities; and inter-school teams.

Chess
Chess is a unique component of the instructional program at Matthews Hall. It is valued for its logic, intellectual stimulation and universal appeal.
Students learn to play chess through formal classroom instruction beginning in Grade 1. We are fortunate to have local chess master and reigning London chess champion, Mr. Steve Demmery, as our chess instructor.
Students who crave more opportunities to develop their skills outside of the classroom can do so by participating in our noon hour chess club. By studying the “royal game of chess”, our students learn skills of strategy, analysis, patience and etiquette, which can be transferred throughout the curriculum and beyond.
Students in Grades 3 to 8 have the opportunity to participate annually in a city-wide Grade-by-Grade Chess Tournament in March, as well as in other tournaments hosted by Matthews Hall and the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario.
