Matthews Hall strives for education that reaches beyond the average and is based in children’s confidence and their compassion for others.
Through the encouragement of strong basic skills, good work habits, rich and varied activities and total participation, the school nurtures in each student caring actions, optimistic spirit, a sense of personal value and a belief in community. The school’s motto, Debeo Possum Volo, means I must, I can, I will. It expresses responsibility, competence and determination.
We are an accredited school as recognized by CAIS (Canadian Accredited Independent Schools). For more information on CAIS Accreditation please visit the CAIS website.
The Matthews Hall Experience
A central belief of Matthews Hall, which guides all planning and activity, is the philosophy of 100% participation and inclusion. Students are encouraged and supported to share their talents and they are given leadership opportunities in the school.
By mid-year, students will have held a Student Parliament election, performed in concerts, hosted chess tournaments, competed in cross-country, soccer, floor hockey, ice hockey, and volleyball tournaments and entertained families in celebration of our Founder, Kate Matthews. Students are engaged and productive.
Our Campus
High quality education requires a broad choice of options and opportunities to respect children’s capabilities. To support students’ motivation, Matthews Hall provides inviting classrooms with up-to-date materials, several acres of well-equipped grounds to encourage active play, a library, gymnasium, performing arts studio, drama studio, up-to-date computer lab and innovative maker space, art gallery and outdoor classroom. Our Peace Garden encourages contemplation and friendship.
When visitors enter the school, they comment on its warmth, cleanliness, order and welcome. Phase 1 of our campus renewal project is now complete. A bright, modern 10 classroom expansion opened in September 2020.
