Head’s Blog: Being Together at Matthews Hall

This year, we are introducing Monday morning assemblies every three weeks or so as a way to bring us together, hear from our student leaders, and celebrate accomplishments at Matthews Hall. This past Monday we held our first of these assemblies and our next will be on Monday, October 5, 2026.

These assemblies will not take a great deal of time, start at 9am, and all are welcome who wish to stay and see a little slice of Matthews Hall life.

There is something special that happens when an entire school community comes together. During our active days, students and staff are often focused on their classrooms, activities, and responsibilities. Assemblies give us the opportunity to pause, gather as one, and experience the shared energy that makes Matthews Hall such a vibrant and connected community. When our youngest learners sit alongside our oldest, we are reminded that we are all part of this great community.

These moments also strengthen the relationships that help our community thrive. Assemblies allow us to support one another, encourage one another, get to better know one another, and celebrate the achievements of others. Whether we are recognizing a classroom accomplishment, a student success, a team achievement, an act of kindness, or a skill learned or mastered, we recognize that another person’s success does not diminish our own. Instead, it gives us another reason to celebrate and another opportunity to feel pride in our community.

As an elementary school, our assemblies further build connections across grade levels that are unique and important. Younger students have the opportunity to learn from and look up to older students, while older students develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility as role models.

These assemblies will help us all stay connected to the full life of the school. Matthews Hall is more than a collection of classrooms. We are a community built on shared experiences, mutual support, joyful celebration, and a commitment to learning and growing together.

Come join us whenever you can – you are always welcome.
