This month, we look forward to hosting our third Open House of the year—a moment that invites the community to learn about Matthews Hall. Every day, meaningful learning and deep relationships are taking shape within the walls of Matthews Hall. While we know the power of this experience firsthand, we also believe it is something worth sharing more broadly with our community.
We are especially grateful to our current families who so generously share their experiences of Matthews Hall with friends and neighbours. Your trust, advocacy, and word?of?mouth referrals are among the most powerful affirmations of who we are and what we value. Schools are, at their heart, communities of people, and nothing speaks more authentically than families telling their own stories.
During our Open House, students will once again be our guides—welcoming prospective families, sharing their perspectives, and helping visitors better understand how Matthews Hall might be a meaningful fit for their own family. As we open our doors, we are reminded of the elements that really matter in a school experience.
School Environment Matters
When we think back on our own school years, we quickly realise that while academics were the core, it is often the environment that lingers most vividly: the sense of belonging we felt, the relationships we formed, and the feeling of being known. A school’s culture is shaped not by buildings or programs alone, but by the people within it. It is those daily interactions that define how we relate to our community and to one another.
Relationships Matter
Education is fundamentally human, not mechanical. Relationships sustain us, ground us, and enable growth. To feel known—to truly belong—matters deeply at every age. Strong relationships provide the foundation for wellbeing, confidence, and achievement, allowing students to flourish both academically and personally.
Those Who Educate Matter
Nothing is more important than the people with whom a learner engages each day. At the heart of any strong educational experience are educators who build trust, curiosity, and care. Students learn their teachers before they can fully learn the material, and it is through those relationships that learning becomes meaningful and lasting.
Mission Matters
A school’s mission must live at the centre of all decision?making. Choices about people, programs, resources, and desired outcomes should consistently reflect the reason the school exists in the first place. When mission guides action, clarity and coherence follow, shaping an experience that is both intentional and authentic.
Thoughtful and Intentional Teaching and Learning Matters
The synthesis of a clear mission, a strong culture, meaningful relationships, and dedicated educators leads to thoughtful and intentional teaching and learning. This work does not happen by chance—it emerges from purpose, reflection, and care. When students are immersed in such an environment, the result is a rich, engaging, and deeply meaningful school experience.
As we look ahead, we do so with gratitude for the families who already call Matthews Hall home and excitement for those who are curious to learn more. If our values resonate with you, we warmly invite you to join us at our Open House. Come walk our halls, meet our students and educators, and experience for yourself the community that so many families are proud to share.
We look forward to welcoming everyone!
