Welcome to 2026, and back to Matthews Hall! I do hope everyone found some time over the break to embrace that which is meaningful to them. Having begun my schooling at four years of age and never leaving, I often joke that I am now in grade 53. Over those many years, I have learned that the winter break a great time to decompress and reflect.
Downtime and reflection are essential to allowing us to take stock of our progress and tune goals and responsibilities effectively. In a hurried and formidable world, taking a step back can provide clarity, enabling us to assess what truly matters. This time away from the hustle and bustle fosters deeper connections with others as we become more present and engaged in our relationships. By reflecting on our interactions and experiences, we can cultivate gratitude for the people and opportunities in our lives, recognizing the support and love that surround us. This sense of appreciation not only enhances our emotional well-being but also strengthens our bonds with others, creating a supportive network that can help us navigate life.
It also provides opportunity for planning and envisioning our future. By allowing ourselves the space to think creatively and strategically, we can set meaningful goals that align with our values and aspirations. Reflection helps us identify patterns in our lives, revealing areas where we can grow and improve. As we take stock of our experiences and express gratitude for our current circumstances, we empower ourselves to make informed decisions that will lead to a fulfilling future.
This holds true both at home and at school, and we have much to embrace as we enter the new calendar year. Upcoming we have report cards going home, the Middle School ski trip, the kindergarten classes are going to Fanshawe, the grades 1-3 students are going skating and the grade 4-6 students are going to Boler. In addition to all that great learning, our reregistration process will begin in a few weeks.

We are enormously proud of what we are achieving at Matthews Hall; offering an exemplary learning environment for our students and focusing on the strengths and learning needs of each. Our expectations are high and our enthusiasm for learning with our students is boundless. As a nationally respected school, we take each student from where they are to where they wish to go, and we proudly remain the only independent school in London to receive accreditation through the national body, the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS). This means that our school is part of an exemplary academic network and held to standards that make it among the best in its class. Our people work consistently to achieve at the highest standards, discover potential and provide the best opportunities for our students.
More information on reregistration and timing will be forthcoming over the next two weeks.
