On Thursday, November 20, we hosted our first coffee morning, organized by grade groups, and invited the parents and guardians of those in PK through grade 3 to remain with us after drop off and socialize. I was unsure what to expect and was energized by the turn out, the collegiality, and the connectedness that occurred.
These coffee mornings, of which we planned three, (although based on last week may need more) are an invitation to join us in the library where people will have:
- the opportunity for parents of similar age/grade parents to meet, network and connect?
- the opportunity to learn about key opportunities & events at the school
- the opportunity to discuss exciting or emerging initiatives at the school
Our first coffee morning was very well attended and everyone was able to participate in the three goals of the morning. It was great to see the room filled with conversation and connection, and the energy being shared. It was clear that this was an opportunity that everyone appreciated, and I am very happy that the information gathered from the event survey led us to this moment. My thanks to everyone who had a hand in making the morning a success.
The next two occur in January and February of 2026, and more information will be forthcoming on both. Please consider attending.
We now enter the final weeks before the winter break. This is a time when student energy can be high and fueled by the proximity to time off, celebrations, and time in and on the snow. This time of year also allows for appreciation and gratitude, and it is the thoughtfulness and professionalism of our faculty and staff for which I am grateful.
The Matthews Hall team is characterized by its compassion, constant willingness to help and support, and a deep belief in our students. They are a strong and dedicated team of educators that make me proud when I see them care for the small things which in turn serve the bigger goals. This perspective was shared with me by a number of parents at the coffee morning last week. I am grateful to have the opportunity to learn, grow and teach alongside them.
I look forward to the next coffee morning where opportunities, events and a general sense of togetherness can be shared.
