Back on October 10, I wrote about the importance of the Matthews Hall community coming together and being intentional about creating the moments where this can happen. The message included a link to as survey in which we asked the community to reflect on school events that you would like to see and attend.
We had a wonderful response to the survey with over 95 people engaging in all or some of the questions. My thanks to all who took the time to share their thinking. I would like to share with you some of the themes that emerged from the survey and the actions we are undertaking as a result of your thinking. In fact, some actions are already in motion.
You may recall you were asked to rank 8 events in order of preference. Two events were asked for more than any other, and by a wide margin. They were an event that includes the entire family, and the Gala. To that end, we will continue with Winterfest in the form of a family skate in Springbank Park, and the Spring Gala will spark some 90’s excitement. There will be more to come on both of these events. A number of the comments pointed out that the theme was important with respect to attending the Gala. The Events Committee is now taking this into consideration as they plan.
The comments also indicated a wish to create some time where parents can be at the school after drop off or pick up and keep company. As a result of that feedback, we initiated coffee mornings by grade groups. The first of which happened yesterday with more to come. We will also bring back Grandparents Day this year which will happen in the Spring.
As I mentioned in the October piece, we each bring a unique perspective and set of experiences. Moments of togetherness provide a platform for these perspectives. Time together is not just a luxury; it is a necessity. When we come together, we deepen community ties, learn from one another, stay connected to the school, and foster a sense of belonging and care for the place we all support. These interactions enrich the school experience for everyone, creating a vibrant, supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in the survey. It is your feedback that has guided us, and I very much look forward to seeing you at these events this year.
