As I mentioned briefly last week, our Motto, “I Must, I Can, I Will” (Debeo, Possum, Volo), strikes me and I believe serves as a powerful mantra that encapsulates the heart of intrinsic motivation and resilience. Each element of our Motto feeds the next to create the three touch points of achievement.
“I Must”, the recognition of the necessity of your goals, provides an unambiguous understanding of the destination and instills a sense of urgency and commitment. In recognizing what you must achieve, you create a clear purpose, and this creates the space to prioritize your efforts and stay focused on your objectives, even when faced with challenges.
Self-belief establishes the confidence to try, and saying “I Can” is acknowledging that you have the capability to achieve your goals. It encourages a growth mindset, where you see challenges as opportunities to learn and improve. Reminding yourself that you can, even in the face of potential obstacles boosts your morale and motivates you to take action. It is important to remember that you need not be alone in your efforts. A great writer needs a great editor as we all need support from time to time in the pursuit of our goals.
I Will, establishes a firm decision to commit to a goal and the determination to see it through. Goals come with challenges and determining to finish something both requires and develops the resilience needed to persevere. By affirming that you will, you reinforce your dedication and willingness to put in the necessary effort. This mindset is foundational to resiliency.
Collectively, these statements, our Motto, create a flow and approach to identifying goals, believing in our abilities, and committing to action. By allowing “I Must, I Can, I Will” to be a guide, you can establish a mindset that courageously embraces effort, develops intrinsic motivation, and builds resiliency; ultimately leading you to success.
